St. Joseph Parish sponsors a much-needed blood drive at the parish twice a year, usually in January and June. We encourage first-time donors to become regular donors. (Minimum age is seventeen.) Please sign up when the time comes. Give the Gift of Life! For more information, please see the parish directory.
St. Joseph Parish makes Christmas brighter for 125 families in rural Missouri each year. If you would like to take part in this special ministry, you’ll be asked to purchase and wrap specific gifts for each member of a family and deliver them to the parish the weekend before Christmas. We will then deliver them to the Rural Parish Workers of Christ the King for distribution to the families.
More info to come.
If you love to knit/crochet, your talent is needed to make prayer shawls for those who are ill and suffering. Recipients wrap themselves in the shawls, which are blessed by one of our parish priests, as a reminder of our love and prayers. We also make hats/scarves for the homeless and baby blankets, hats, and booties for local shelters. Check the bulletin (green ribbon at top of page) for meeting dates and times. For those who don’t know how to knit/crochet, you are welcome to come and learn from our volunteers. To request a prayer shawl for someone or for more information about this ministry, see the parish directory.
Quilters
Our parish quilting group meets on Wednesdays from 9:30 am-Noon. Proceeds from the sale of these beautiful hand-made quilts help support the parish. For contact information, see the parish directory.
Ryan’s Case for Smiles
Our ministry supports Ryan’s Case for Smiles, an organization that delivers specially made pillowcases to a local children’s hospital. Meeting every other month to sew and socialize, our group is made up of people of all ages with a goal to give sick kids a reason to smile one pillowcase at a time. If you do not sew, you can help by writing cards, ironing, folding and packing. For instructions on making a pillowcase, click here. To join the fun, see the parish directory.
On the second Sunday of the month, items are collected in the church courtyard before all Masses for the St. Augustine Wellston Center thrift shop and food pantry. Parishioners who wish to participate may pick up a schedule of particular items to be collected from the Parish Office. To view the wish list please click on the document below. To volunteer as a driver (deliver to 1705 Kienlen Ave.) or for more information, see the parish directory.
Volunteers provide and serve a luncheon after funerals at St. Joseph and can always use additional help. For contact information, see the parish directory.
Each Thursday volunteers make sandwiches at the parish for the homeless and needy. Volunteers are always welcome, or you can prepare sandwiches at home. Donations of fruit are also accepted. Sandwiches or bags of fruit can be dropped off each Thursday throughout the year in the refrigerators located in the Athletic Field garage.
Sandwiches are prepared as follows:
Fruit donations: Fruit goes into the same refrigerators as the sandwiches. It can be kept in the bag as packaged by the grocery store, but any bag is acceptable.
Each Friday, parish volunteers deliver the food to 2 charities: St. Vincent de Paul Church in the Soulard area and St. Patrick Center in the downtown-west area. For more information on this year-round service, contact Bob Diekemper, 636-391-7614.
Guest Volunteers prepare single servings of soup or stew or set aside individual portions from their family meal for an "unseen dinner guest." Each meal is frozen, labeled, and dated. Frozen meals should be placed in the freezer compartments of the refrigerators located in the Athletic Field garage and can be dropped off at any time. Each Friday a volunteer delivers meals to St. Patrick Center.
For contact information, see the parish directory.
