2017 SANDWICH AND UNSEEN DINNER GUEST PROGRAMS RESULTS For 2017, parishioners and parish organizations contributed for the poor and hungry at St. Louis City charities: Loaves of sandwiches 1,700 Bags of fruit 300 Individual frozen dinners 700 (From the Unseen Dinner Guest Program.) Also, thanks to Rich Hunt, some 4,200 loaves/packages of bakery goods were collected from grocery stores and a bakery outlet and delivered as part of the Sandwich Program. The loaves of sandwiches above include those funded from the profits of our St. Joseph Lenten fish fries. Thanks to the Golden Rulers, and in particular the coordinators Harry and Charlene Martin, who prepare these sandwiches each Friday after the 8:30am Mass. (The Golden Rulers can always use more help with this effort!) In 2017, we began receiving excess prepared frozen food from 2 local restaurants and typically this amounts to 50+ pounds of food per week. Thanks to Mark Leach who collects this food each Friday. These programs would not be possible without the help of a group of dedicated volunteers from St. Joseph who each Saturday deliver the food to City charities for distribution. Thanks to our scheduled deliverers: Janet and Larry Jin, Carolyn and Shane Jordan, Kathy and Dave Sandknop, and Mary and Mike Book. Thanks also to other parishioners who assist as substitute deliverers and more substitute deliverers are always welcome. This entire coordinated effort is a great display of Charity by the parishioners of St Joseph. Thank you to all who participated including parish organizations and especially the fourth grade school and PSR students who prepare sandwiches several times a year. The need for food to feed the poor and hungry is ever present and additional participation is most welcome.
